Canada’s First Face Transplant

“It was a beautiful face. The flesh smooth and plump, the mouth and lips generous and full. It was still attached by two arteries and three veins to the donor’s neck. His heart was still beating strong, his body warm to the touch. His skin flushed pink with blood. But when the surgeons cut and clamped the last five vessels, freeing the face entirely from the brain-dead organ donor’s body, it instantly began to turn white as his life drained from it.”
