A tale of two activists

“At Kris Lee’s cottage near Sombra — a 30-minute drive from Sarnia on the St. Clair River — it was her daughter’s sixth birthday, and everyone wanted to go swimming. Only on this July day in 1985, Lee spied divers and bright orange balloon markers near the dock. Then the radio blared out the news: Eleven thousand litres of perchloroethylene, a cancer-causing chemical used in dry cleaning, had escaped from the Dow Chemical Company plant in Sarnia (the plant has since shut down).”
